On the last day of the school year and before the start of the summer vacation in 2007, a brush fire broke out in the area behind Reeces Creek Elementary School.

Eastern Hills Middle School will sponsor a book fair Oct. 3-10, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every day except Oct. 9, when it will be open until 7 p.m. The book fair will be in the school's library located at 300 Indian Trail in Harker Heights.

Some teams won't be suiting up today for that weekly Texas tradition known as Friday Night Lights. Coaches of Ellison, Harker Heights and Copperas Cove made the tactical decision last spring to spend this particular Friday night at home, the week before critical district play starts.
